Child safety standards
spareachair is an app for scheduled online conversations between verified adults. These are our standards against child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). They apply to the spareachair app for iPhone and Android and to everything people share in it.
Adults only, verified
spareachair is only for people aged 18 and over. Before anyone can take part in an Evening, send a message or join a call, they verify their identity with an ID document and a selfie. Anyone under 18 is turned away.
Zero tolerance
Child sexual abuse material (CSAM), grooming, sexualising minors in any way, and any other child sexual abuse or exploitation are strictly forbidden. There are no warnings for this: the account is banned at once and we report it to the authorities.
How we prevent it
- Every participant is 18+ and ID-verified. One person, one account: a banned person cannot sign up again with the same identity.
- There are no photo, video or file uploads. Conversations are text, and voice or video only when both sides choose it.
- Automated filters check every message and profile text. Sexual content involving minors is blocked before anyone sees it and automatically files an urgent report to our moderators.
- Cameras are off by default and video is only shown to people who choose to see it. We never record audio or video.
- People move between small tables at scheduled times. There is no random one-to-one chat with strangers.
How to report
In the app, tap Report on a person, a message or a table and choose “Someone may be under 18”. These reports go to the top of our queue and our moderators are alerted at once.

What we do
- We remove the content and ban the account and the verified identity behind it.
- We keep the evidence securely for the authorities and for as long as the law requires.
- We report child sexual abuse material and exploitation to law enforcement and the competent authorities as the law requires, including through national hotlines of the INHOPE network where appropriate.
- We cooperate with lawful requests from authorities investigating child sexual abuse.
